Why do you require my billing details for a free trial?
The reason we ask new customers for their billing details even when they sign up for a free trial is for pre-authorisation security.
Asking for billing details, even if we don’t charge for free trials, allows us to verify someone is a real human user. This eliminates a lot of age, location and legality requirements rather than just letting anyone in.
Also, for every subscriber we carry, we incur fees for serving the content in our six territories as well as streaming charges, music licenses, admin and staff. So if we just let anyone in without using a security check, we wouldn’t be able to survive and deliver this service.
You’ll notice that all online subscription services (as well as airlines, restaurants, car rentals, etc.) follow the same procedure.
Please note that no charges will ever be applied to your chosen billing method during a free trial with us. You will only be charged if you decide to stay on past the free trial period. We also send an email three days before your trial ends to remind you it’s happening, and how to cancel or continue.
In addition, if there are any issues with your billing, we can take care of cancellation, trial extension and refund requests for you.
